Apr. 28 - The Giuseppe Verdi hall of the Italian Cultural Institute in Budapest will welcome Alessio Elia, on Thursday, May 8. The meeting with the Italian composer and pianist is part of the "Contemporary" exhibition, promoted by the IIC, which offers, through music and words, authentic "portraits of an author." "Established to raise awareness on the rich repertoire of recent classical music, the event - says the Director of the IIC, Gina Giannotti - is a journey / discovery that seeks to understand those musical experiences spanning generations - from the masters of World War II until today - that opened new frontiers. The selected artists all studied the relationship of sound, space, and time, and offered new perspectives." The event will allow the public to listen to compositions in an exclusive concert, but it also for a Q&A session with the authors. The next event will be with Italian composer Alessio Elia, born in 1979, who has lived in Budapest since 2005. Elia studied in Italy, Hungary and Germany, and his music has been performed worldwide, broadcast on radio and television stations, such as Radio Bartók, Saarländischer Rundfunk, Radio Vaticana, Magyar Televízió and Duna Tv. Elia was guest composer and researcher at the Liszt Academy, the University of Debrecen and the Kodály Institute in Hungary, at the Sacher Foundation in Switzerland, and at the Academy of Music in Oslo, where he was also professor of composition in 2010.

WORLDWIDE SUCCESS

Alessio Elia’s compositions have been performed in Italy and abroad with internationally recognized orchestras, ensembles and instrumentalists. Last year, thanks to his composition "Rejtett dimenziók," Elia received the prize in the orchestral competition category of the Umzf (Forum of New Hungarian Music), with Péter Eötvös serving as president of the jury. He has also collaborated with Radio Bartók, composing a piece for the National Orchestra of the Hungarian Radio to be performed on May 21.
