The embassy remembers Padre Piccirillo,<br>the Franciscan archaeologist

(13 September 2018) For the tenth anniversary of the death of Father Michele Piccirillo, a Franciscan friar of the Custody of the Holy Land and an internationally renowned archaeologist, the Italian Embassy in Amman "will contribute in honouring his memory, and his spiritual, human and scientific legacy" , according to the Embassy website. Father Piccirillo was one of the greatest archaeologists of the history of the Christian Middle East who made sacred art, and in particular mosaics, a means of evangelisation. The Italian Embassy in Amman takes part in the commemoration "Thirty years of restoration of mosaics and beyond", on Wednesday, September 19th at 6 pm at the American Centre for Oriental Research (ACOR) of Amman, with the contribution by Father Rosario Pieri and conservator Franco Sciorilli. The commemoration of the great Franciscan archaeologist will include an intense organ concert of maestro Alessandro Licata, professor at the "Santa Cecilia" National Conservatory of Rome. The event, which will be held on September 20th at 19.00 at the Basilica of Mount Nebo, was organised by the Italian Embassy in Amman and the Franciscan Custody of the Holy Land as part of "Terra Sancta Organ Festival".
