For the first time, the Italian Football Federation has lost its lead in terms of registered members to the Italian Tennis and Padel Federation. This is a notable breakthrough in the "CONI-FNS-DSA Monitoring," a document used by CONI, the Italian Olympic Committee, to report, among other things, the number of sports clubs and registered members in Italy, broken down by discipline, region, age, and gender. This historic overtaking occurred in 2024, the most recent year included in CONI's periodic report. In an extremely positive overall scenario for Italy, the number of registered members has increased for the third consecutive year and has now reached the historical record of 6,069,891 (+7.7% between 2023 and 2024). The Italian Tennis and Padel Federation has reached 1,162,477, which accounts for 20.2% of the total federal registrations. In contrast, the Football Federation has 1,123,054 athletes registered (19.5%). Volleyball (359,797), basketball (320,769), and athletics (292,599) remain significantly behind.
