Fifteen young performers are set to compete for a position among Italy's music stars. The first live auditions for Sanremo Giovani have concluded, marking the end of the journey that leads new voices to the Sanremo Festival, one of the most watched events on Italian television and the musical event par excellence in Italy, having entertained generations of Italians, including those living abroad, for decades. Stefano De Martino, the host of the program, described the debut auditions as "a burst of talent and energy", underscoring the need of providing spaces and opportunities for the upcoming generation of musicians. Those selected include Albe, Lea Gavino, Petit, Plasma, rob and Santamarea, alongside other emerging artists who impressed the jury with their original songs. The goal is to secure a spot on the Festival's stage, which is now in its 77th edition. Sanremo will be held from Tuesday, February 16th to Saturday, February 20th, 2027, in the Teatro Ariston in the Ligurian city of the same name. Twenty-four musicians will participate in a competition that mixes song, entertainment, and popular debate over the course of five evenings. Many Italians regard Sanremo as a collective ritual, with performances, costumes, charts, and notable songs becoming subjects of conversation long after the Festival has ended. Friday evening will also be dedicated to selecting Italy's representative to the Eurovision Song Contest, an international music competition that brings together countries from throughout Europe and beyond. Those interested in attending the event in person can pre-register on a dedicated site for the first wave of ticket sales, which will begin in mid-December.
