Italian tenor, Filippo Adami plays La Traviata at the Brooklyn Theatre

(July 21, 2017) Italian tenor Filippo Adami will play Alfredo in the new La Traviata production on stage at the Brooklyn Theatre in Pretoria from July 26th to August 6th. Giuseppe Verdi's La Traviata, presented by the Brooklyn Theatre in collaboration with the Italian Institute of Culture of Pretoria, will be performed with English subtitles, with the orchestra of the Brooklyn Theatre Salon Ensemble under the leadership of Schalk van der Merwe. Among other South African interpreters are soprano Ilze Coetzee (Violetta) and baritone Douwe Bijkersma (Germont). Adami is an opera singer from Florence and a specialist in the 'bel canto' repertory with particular predisposition to Rossini's roles. He performed in The Barber of Seville, La Gazza Ladra, Cinderella and other works by Rossini. He regularly plays roles in works by Donizetti, Puccini, and other Baroque works. (Red)

TRAVEL

La Traviata, by Giuseppe Verdi, whose first performances dates back to 1853 in Venice, is about the tormented love story between a young and honoured family, Alfredo, and the courtesan, Violetta. Social prejudices divide the two lovers, reunited with truth and love a few minutes before Violetta's death.
