The University continues to win awards in the international rankings, both in comparison with other universities as well as an institution of strategic value for the growth of Bologna. The latest result in chronological order comes from Times Higher Education. The ranking, in this particular case is of the ten most beautiful universities in Europe. A top 10 list that focuses on the cultural, artistic, and aesthetic value of university buildings and spaces, making the University of Bologna stand out in first place. "The University of Bologna - as the authors of the ranking explain - is one of the most beautiful campuses in Europe and perhaps in the world". A record that derives from the many historic sites that house the various buildings of the university, its museums and green spaces, first among which is the Botanical Garden. Together with Unibo - the only Italian university in the top 10 - the ranking rewards other historic European universities: the University of Salamanca, the oldest Spanish university, in second place, while the University of Coimbra (Portugal) is in third place thanks to its white façades and baroque architecture.
