The Scala Theatre in China with “Don Quixote

For its twentieth anniversary, the Grand Theatre brings Don Quixote to Shanghai, performed by the Teatro alla Scala dance company and the Shanghai Opera House Orchestra. The show will be performed at the Shanghai Grand Theatre starting Friday August 31st until Sunday September 2nd. The ballet is based on the famous novel by Miguel de Cervantes, Don Quixote, which premiered on December 14th 1869 by the Bolshoi Ballet. Since then, numerous and illustrious choreographers have ventured up until the choreographed version by Rudolph Nureyev. The great Russian dancer interpreted it for the first time in 1966 for the Vienna State Opera and since then Nureyev's choreography became part of major theatres of the world. Don Quixote became part of the Teatro alla Scala repertoire in 1987.
