(25 September 2018) A seismic break causes deep changes in the rocks in which it spreads, leaving a "scar": these are the conclusions reached by the research recently published in "Nature Communication" by Professor Cecilia Viti from the Department of Physical, Earth, and Environmental Sciences of the University of Siena, in collaboration with researchers from the University of Otago, in New Zealand. In the strong interdisciplinary approach, which involved various sectors of Geology, from tectonics to seismology and mineralogy, the researchers observed that a seismic rupture causes profound transformations in the rocks in which it propagates.
