(29 october 2018) European and Brazilian scholars of image and anthropology will be at the University of Siena for the international seminar of Visual Anthropology, promoted by the Ars Videndi laboratory of the Department of Social, Political and Cognitive Sciences - a reflection on forms of expression and art Contemporary. The event will open today at the Santa Chiara Lab of the University of Siena, with a round table discussion on the art of visual anthropology in research on artistic practices in marginal and precarious communities. In the afternoon there will be a review of the works produced by the visual anthropology laboratory of the University of São Paulo: this campus maintains exciting exchanges and research with the University of Siena, which have been realized with theses carried out in collaboration, conferences and studies conducted in the "field" in marginal or migrant communities, viewed through artistic practices. One of the central themes of these studies is the relationship between artistic expressive forms and the social identity of precarious communities, a central topic in the research interests of the Department of Social, Political, and Cognitive Sciences. The second day, tomorrow, will focus on illustrating these research studies in a broader spectrum of participation by international scholars. The seminar will end in Castiglion del Lago (PG), as part of the celebrations for the tenth anniversary of the School of specialization in folklore, ethnological, and anthropological goods, of which the University of Siena is a co-founder with the University of Perugia.
