The ports of Trieste and Shimizu

(28 August 2017) The Port Authority of the Eastern Adriatic Sea and the Shizuoka Prefecture (Japan) have signed a protocol of collaboration between the ports of Trieste and Shimizu which has been negotiated for nearly a year and favoured by the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region.   President Zeno d'Agostino signed representing the Port Authority of Trieste, in the presence of the vice-president of Friuli Venezia Giulia, Sergio Bolzonello, and of a large delegation of the Japanese Prefecture led by Deputy Governor Takashi Namba. The Port Protocol provides for an alliance between Trieste and Shimizu, with three objectives to be pursued through the exchange of experience: the expansion of economic relations between Friuli Venezia Giulia and Shizuoka areas to strengthen and develop regional collaboration; the exchange of resources and tools for the growth of port operations and merchant fleets; The expansion of the two-tier activity in the international markets for maritime transport services and international transport corridors

The signature follows the mission in Japan in October 2016, featuring a series of meetings on various directives.  Japan moves around 5500 containers per year to Trieste from its ports, two thirds of which consist of Italian exports, with a 30% increase in the last year.
