(9 august 2018) The conference "Goethe a Napoli" (Goethe in Naples) will be held at the Italian Institute of Culture in Cologne on August 28th at 19:30 by Prof. Dieter Richter (Bremen). The IIC and the Goethe Association of Cologne celebrate the 269th anniversary of the birth of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. If Rome for Goethe was the centre of Italy, Naples was its epicentre. The turbulent southern city: the greatest city Goethe ever knew, which would have irritated the Weimar poet for many reasons. The conference retraces Goethe's journey from Rome to Naples and his experiences in the gulf city and its surroundings, including his climbs up Mount Vesuvius and his excursion to the Greek temples of Paestum.
