Italian language week, focus <br> on the role of social media

(16 October 2018) Tomorrow from 3 to 5 pm at the Institut für Romanistik in Vienna, the event/journey will take place as part of Italian new media, titled "Scorribande gioiose nell'italiano irretito" (Joyful Forays in Entangled Italian) attended by Vera Gheno, from the University of Florence and of the Accademia della Crusca. In recent years, the attention of the public in Italy has been focused on language used in social networks, regarded with curiosity and sometimes with suspicion. But what are the characteristics of Italian that you read on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and WhatsApp? Why do many consider it, perhaps wrongly, the ruin of the language? Analyzing social networks, the speaker will outline a picture of contemporary Italian language, including changes, tics, idiosyncrasies, false myths and more or less justified fears that surround it. The event was organised by the Institut für Romanistik, in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute of Vienna, as part of the Italian Language Week in the world.
