Sustainable olive tree cultivation: University of Parma <br> and Cidea at the summit of a european project

(21 march 2019) The Consortium Agreement was signed in recent days between all the partners of the European project Prima "Sustainolive", of which the University of Parma one of the main partners along with the Interdepartmental Center CIDEA. The project aims to develop modern criteria and methods for sustainable development of olive cultivation and for the production of quality olive oil.  Over the course of the activities all the innovative technological solutions (STS - Sustainable Technological Solutions) that can be put in place to encourage sustainable cultivation of olives and to improve the resilience of the plants to external environmental conditions, while reducing the input of chemicals (fertilizers, insecticides, pesticides) and energy. New circular economy techniques will be tested in which an important role will be entrusted to the collection of pruning residues, to their on-site transformation in biochar and to its dispersion in the soil of the crops to improve the chemical, biological, and agronomic characteristics.
