Italy-Algeria / Minister Bernini signs memorandum on scientific cooperation

Algiers - Italian Minister of University and Research Anna Maria Bernini and Algerian Minister of Higher Education Kamel Baddari have signed a Memorandum of Understanding in Algiers with the aim of strengthening scientific cooperation between the two countries. This memorandum aims at a series of practical objectives ranging from promoting research and academic exchange to collaboration in crucial sectors such as agritech, water resource management, and protection of the Mediterranean Sea. The memorandum primarily aims to encourage cooperation between higher education and research institutions, facilitating the exchange of information and viewpoints on scientific and technological issues. This joint effort aims to promote participation in international conferences and events, facilitate the mobility of students, faculty, and researchers between the two countries, and support academic research and teaching of languages, cultures, and histories of both nations. The Mattei Plan, as highlighted by Minister Bernini, includes higher education as a pillar of the cooperation and development strategy for Africa. This commitment aims to train leadership classes and provide young Africans with the necessary tools to actively contribute to the progress of their countries. Scientific cooperation between Italy and Algeria has historical roots; in the current landscape, numerous university collaborations and a growing presence of Algerian students in Italy are evident, demonstrating mutual interest in enhancing skills and joint research. Projects funded in Algeria by Italian universities reflect the challenges and opportunities of the Algerian territory. Sectors such as agritech, renewable energies, water resource management, and social sciences emerge as priority focuses: in particular, water scarcity and low agricultural productivity represent crucial challenges addressed through local research projects and sustainable development initiatives. Minister Bernini's visit to Algeria is part of an increasingly close collaboration in the fields of research, innovation, and technological development. (9colonne)
