"L'acqua del lago non è mai dolce" (The Water of the Lake Is Never Sweet), the novel by Giulia Caminito, tells the story of Antonia's family—a proud and fiercely determined woman who single-handedly cares for her disabled husband and four children. She is determined to teach her only daughter to rely solely on her own strength to keep her head held high.

And Gaia learns: to never complain, to take a regional train to school every day, to read books, to hide her phone in a shoebox, to dive into the lake even when the currents pull downward. She may seem like a freckled girl who lowers her head, but when she looks up, her eyes shine with an intense, dark light.

The Portuguese translation, published by Lua de Papel/Leya, will be presented on March 5 at 6:30 PM at the Italian Cultural Institute in Lisbon in an event held in both Portuguese and Italian, with consecutive translation.

The presentation, organized by the IIC in collaboration with Lua de Papel/Leya and PIENA – books, people, visions, will be led by Vasco Gato and attended by the author.
