Palermo hosts International Winter School on diabetes and cardiometabolic risk

Doha – The Winter School on Diabetes and Cardiometabolic Risk has officially started today at the University of Palermo, coordinated by Professor Manfredi Rizzo. Forty professors and students from Qatar University in Doha and the RAK Medical & Health Sciences University of the United Arab Emirates are taking part in an intensive training and research program focused on major medical-scientific issues such as diabetes, obesity, and cardiovascular diseases.

“We are proud to host this initiative,” stated Massimo Midiri, Rector of the University of Palermo. “The Winter School on Diabetes and Cardiometabolic Risk is a unique opportunity for doctors, researchers, and students from the three involved universities to deepen their knowledge in this field. It will also strengthen UniPa’s role as a center of excellence in medical research and enhance our cultural and scientific heritage.”

“The goal of this Winter School is to foster knowledge and expertise sharing at the highest scientific level,” explained Professor Manfredi Rizzo, the event’s coordinator. “Professors and students from two prestigious universities will have the chance to update their knowledge, engage with field experts, and discover the excellence of our university and city.”

The program includes interactive sessions, workshops, and round tables to facilitate the exchange of ideas and collaboration. Special focus will be placed on prevention, diagnosis, and treatment strategies for cardiometabolic diseases. The event will feature lectures, educational activities, and practical training at UniPa facilities and the Policlinico di Palermo, involving numerous professors and young researchers.

This scientific and educational event is part of a broader framework of international academic cooperation, supported by the Italian Ambassadors to the UAE and Qatar, in line with the directives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
