Curitiba – For the first time in history, Brazil will host a World Cup stage of sport climbing in South America. The competition will take place in Curitiba, capital of the southern state of Paraná, at the Olympic Climbing Center located within the Parque Olímpico do Cajuru, from May 16 to 18. This is the second World Cup event following the stage in Keqiao, China, in April, with the third leg scheduled for May 23–25 in Salt Lake City.
A total of 59 boulder specialists will compete, including Italians Nicolò Sartirana, the reigning national champion, and Niccolò Antony Salvatore, university world champion and holder of the Italian National Cup. On the women’s side, 57 athletes will participate, including five Italians: Giorgia Tesio, the current Italian champion; Camilla Moroni, multi-time Italian champion and Paris Olympian; Giulia Medici, university world champion; Irina Daziano, silver medalist at the European Cup stage in Genoa; and Francesca Matuella, current holder of the Italian Absolute Cup.
The competition schedule is as follows: on Friday, May 16, starting at 2:00 p.m. (Italian time), the qualification rounds will take place. On Saturday, May 17, the men’s semifinals are scheduled for 3:00 p.m., with the thrilling finals starting at 10:00 p.m. The same schedule applies to the women’s competition on Sunday, May 18: semifinals at 3:00 p.m. and finals at 10:00 p.m., closing the first-ever South American World Cup in style.
