Jan. 23 - In the new "Global Go To Think Tank Index Report", the Istituto Bruno Leoni (IBL) is ranked 123rd over 6,000 think tanks surveyed worldwide. The report, drawn up by the Think Tanks and Civil Societies Program at the University of Pennsylvania, is a landmark journal that records the performance of research centers in various countries. The ranking of the best think tanks in the world was achieved thanks to some 1500 reports from more than 2000 scholars and representatives of the 6603 research centers and institutions surveyed. In this ranking, IBL is the second Italian think tank, after the Institute for International Affairs (92nd place). Among the first 150 institutes, there are two other Italian think tanks: 128th is the Euro-Mediterranean Centre on Climate Change and 131st is the Enrico Mattei Foundation. The Istituto Bruno Leoni is also present in the other three categories of the study: it is 84th in the ranking for best think tanks outside the US; it is 61st among the Western European think tanks; and it is 31st in the "Best Advocacy Campaign." "This ranking - said Alberto Mingardi, director general of the institute - has basically confirmed the view that the community of scholars and policy experts had on the different study centers. It confirms IBL’s good reputation acquired over the years; and this is all thanks to the hard work of its researchers and fellows, who rightly have earned consideration and esteem of many colleagues."
107 ACTIVE THINK TANKS IN ITALY
The best think tank at the global level is the Brookings Institution (USA), second is Chatham House (UK) and third is the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace (USA). In Italy there are 107 active think tanks, placing the country in tenth place in the world for total number of think tanks. The United States are again number one with 1823 think tanks.
