May 14 - Freelance photographer Paolo Marchetti is the winner, for the third consecutive year, of the prize PDN - Photo Annual Award organized by the New York magazine Photo District News. Marchetti received the award in the Photojournalism category for his reportage "Saudade Moon," in which he described his alternative vision of Brazil. "Saudade Moon" is the result of a journey that began in 2009 and lasted five years, during which Paul Marchetti traveled along the Amazon River and visited the 800 farms in the state of Minas Jerais, passing through the islands off the northern coast reaching the desert in the state of Maranhao. The result is not a travelogue but a real emotional transition in Brazil. Marchetti wanted to report on the parts of the country that are usually ignored, beyond the favelas and the feverish preparation for the upcoming sporting events, trying to restore Brazil’s musicality and its culture. Marchetti’s work has always been characterized by a particular emphasis on anthropological and political issues, in addition to "Saudade Moon", he completed reports in Central America, Cuba, Haiti, the United States, Eastern Europe, India, China and central Africa. In Italy, he created "Fever," a long-term project realized by working for five years in five European countries, offering a powerful analysis on political anger and the rise of fascism.
