Enrico Derflingher named President of European Chefs

Jan. 13 – A Varenna (Lecco) native is the new president of Euro Toques International, the European chefs association recognized by the EU. Enrico Derflingher was elected after the extraordinary general meeting held yesterday at the Civic Gallery of Campione d’Italia with the participation of about 70 chefs, including 5 starred chefs, representing different European countries . "I am very happy with the outcome of the vote and it is a great honor for me to take over for Didier Peshard and collect the inheritance of Gualtiero Marchesi, who, over fifteen years ago, held this role - said the new president - Our first objective will be to seize the opportunity offered by Expo 2015 and to prepare a program that will enhance Villa Lario as a luxury relais in Mandello del Lario (Lc), on Lake Como, which will soon become home and showcase of Euro Toques International. This landmark of haute cuisine during the Universal Exhibition will host heads of state, members of royal families and famous people of the European Union in conjunction with internationally renowned chefs from various European countries." The extraordinary meeting also decreed to renew the Euro Toques International board, appointing the Belgian Jean Castadeau as general secretary, the Spaniard Pedro Subijana and French Guillaume Gomez as international vice presidents, and Luxembourgish Daniel Rameau as new treasurer. EURO TOQUES INTERNATIONAL

Euro Toques International brings together the 28 EU member countries and Turkey, and counts more than 3,000 associated chefs. It was founded in 1986 by the Belgian chef Pierre Romeyer, the French Paul Bocuse, father of Nouvelle Cuisine, and the Italian Gualtiero Marchesi. The aim was to create an association against the standardization of food, that respected diversity, convinced that European food should continue to be a mosaic of flavors and colors. It brings together estimated cooks from all over Europe thanks to its offices in every European country. In 1986, Jacques Delors, then President of the European Commission, recognize the Association as a fundamental lobby acting in the defense of food. In Italy, the association was founded by Gualtiero Marchesi, who held presidency for a long time before passing the baton to Massimo Spigaroli and Enrico Derflingher, current Italian president and European vice president for Expo 2015. Euro Toques International, based in Brussels, is the only chefs association recognized and approved by the European Union. The principles of Euro-Toques are the glue that allow the association to grow. Another element that distinguishes the association is its attention to solidarity and sharing; two words that increasingly outline the future of the society in which we live and which for Euro-Toques chefs is a way to do an even better job, that captures the ethical side.
