Venice and Russia, meeting<br>points in Byzantine Art

(2 October 2018) The conference "San Marco and the Cathedral of Saint Sophia: peculiarities of assimilation of Byzantine art in medieval Venice and ancient Russia" will be held tomorrow, October 3rd, at 19:00 at the Italian Institute of Culture in Moscow. For various reasons, the history of architecture both in Venice and Russia can be studied starting only from the eleventh century. The two most significant monuments, San Marco and the Cathedral of Santa Sofia, were built 10 years apart. Both date back to the two most important temples of the city of Constantinople, i.e. the Church of the Holy Apostles and Hagia Sophia of Constantinople. The conference, which will be held by Arsenij Petrov, will take place within the series "The art of Venice, Byzantium and medieval Russia: meeting points".
