Berlin embraces Sardinian cinema: a powerful opening night for “Su Cinema”

Berlin – The opening night of the film festival "Su Cinema – Contemporary Sardinian Cinema" took place on Saturday at Il Kino in Berlin, drawing a large and engaged audience. The evening was dedicated to Sardinian documentaries, showcasing themes that "highlight Sardinia," said Alessandro Turci, Director of the Italian Cultural Institute. "A land of emigration, but also a place of arrivals—always welcoming, sincere, and generous."

The festival is organized by the Circolo Culturale Sardo di Berlino / Sardisches Kulturzentrum, with support from the Istituto Fernando Santi and in collaboration with Cittadini del Mondo in Cagliari. The event focused on social documentary cinema from Sardinia, featuring two films: "Dall’Est con Amore" by Karim Galici, produced by Cittadini del Mondo – Cinema per il Sociale e "Transumanze" by Andrea Mura, produced by Ginko Film.

Both documentaries explore the theme of migration—some people choosing Sardinia as their new home, while others leaving the island in search of new opportunities. The two directors joined the discussion live from Sardinia, engaging with the Berlin audience.

“Seeing a full theater and feeling the audience’s deep involvement was truly moving,” said Lorenzo Deidda, President of the Circolo Culturale Sardo di Berlino. “The energy and attention of the spectators made the event a moment of intense engagement and reflection, confirming the interest of both the Berlin and Sardinian communities in Sardinian cinema and its exploration of social and cultural themes.”
