President of Angola João Lourenço meets Eni CEO Claudio Descalzi

Luanda – The President of the Republic of Angola, João Gonçalves Lourenço, and Eni’s Chief Executive Officer, Claudio Descalzi, met in Luanda to review the progress of Azule Energy and Eni’s activities in the country, as well as to discuss future initiatives. The meeting, which took place in the year of Angola’s 50th anniversary of independence, was preceded by talks with the Minister of Mineral Resources, Petroleum and Gas, Diamantino Azevedo; the President of the National Agency for Petroleum, Gas and Biofuels (ANPG), Paulino Jeronimo; and the CEO of Sonangol, Sebastião Gaspar Martins. Descalzi and the President reviewed Azule Energy’s activities, the joint venture between Eni and bp, which has proved to be a highly successful business combination. Azule has achieved significant results both in exploration – with discoveries in Angola and Namibia – and in the swift execution of projects: the company recently commenced production from the Agogo FPSO (Floating Production, Storage and Offloading unit), only 29 months after the final investment decision and ten months ahead of schedule. The aim is to make Agogo FPSO the first carbon-neutral unit of its kind in Angola through emission offsetting projects. Descalzi also outlined to the President ongoing initiatives to promote access to healthcare, education, and economic diversification. Among these, Azule and the Monzino Cardiology Centre support the Cardeal Dom Alexandre do Nascimento Cardiopulmonary Hospital Complex in Luanda. Under the Cabinda Integrated Project, more than 700 beneficiaries have received training in business management, financial education, and the creation/strengthening of small entrepreneurial activities. Azule has also planned the construction and renovation of 14 school facilities, benefiting over 17,000 children. Furthermore, building on the legacy of bp and Eni, Azule is the leading private financier of demining activities carried out by The Halo Trust, aimed at completing the clearance of Benguela province.
