Liverpool – To celebrate the 24th edition of the Week of the Italian Language in the World, dedicated this year to the theme “Italophonia: Language Beyond Borders”, the Comites of Manchester is promoting two public events in Liverpool in collaboration with the University of Liverpool, the Dante Alighieri Society Liverpool, and the charity Mammamia Liverpool.
On Sunday, October 12, the Mossley Hill Centre on Rose Lane will host an afternoon dedicated to families with a storytelling workshop. Between voices, images, and a shared snack, director Anna Cardelli Lynch will lead participants through a creative journey of imagination and expression, exploring the dialogue between the Italian language, imagery, and emotion. The reading session will feature two illustrated books: Io sono foglia (for children aged 3–7) and Se fossi Ugo (for children aged 8–12).
On Wednesday, October 15, the Language Lounge at the University of Liverpool (Abercromby Square) will host a double musical event exploring the relationship between Italian language and music. The afternoon will open at 4:00 p.m. with Singing Italian, a conversation with soprano Sachika Ito about the connection between the sounds of the Italian language and vocal technique. At 6:00 p.m., Ito will return to the stage with guitarist Davide Sciacca for the concert D’Ito at the Opera.
“This kind of initiative gives real meaning to our mission,” said Cesare Ardito, President of the Comites of Manchester. “This year we have finally become an active part of the Italian community’s life in our consular district. We intend to continue in this direction, building a regular calendar of public events in collaboration with local partners—not only in Manchester, but throughout the entire area, from Birmingham in the south to Newcastle in the north.”
