Paris – Ulderico Pesce’s monologue “FIATo sul collo: the 21 Days of the Fiat Melfi Workers’ Struggle” will be performed at the Italian Cultural Institute in Paris on October 9 at 6:30 p.m.
Winner of the 2005 Riccione Prize, the show recounts the 21 harrowing days of the Fiat Melfi workers, who fought for wages equal to those at other plants and for reasonable working hours. Set in Basilicata, Pesce’s native region, FIATo sul collo portrays life in a South struggling with exploitation and injustice, shattering the dreams of a young couple.
The piece combines a deep exploration of stories of dignity violated, struggle, and unfairness with a careful formal investigation of words and sounds captured in everyday settings, enriched by musical contributions from the Têtes de Bois.
