Eni, through its subsidiary Azule Energy - a 50/50 joint venture with bp and operator of the New Gas Consortium (NGC) - has officially inaugurated the consortium’s new gas processing plant in Soyo, northern Angola.
The opening ceremony was attended by Angolan President João Lourenço, along with Minister of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas Diamantino Azevedo and Paulino Jerónimo, Chairman of the National Oil and Gas Agency of Angola.
The NGC project, originally operated by Eni before the creation of Azule Energy, represents Angola’s first development of non-associated gas. The facility has the capacity to process approximately 400 million cubic feet of gas per day, as well as 20,000 barrels of oil daily. Gas extracted from the offshore Quiluma and Maboqueiro fields will be treated onshore and then delivered to the Angola LNG plant, supplying both exports and domestic demand.
This milestone marks a significant step in Angola’s positioning as a strategic player in the global natural gas market. Beyond energy production, the project is expected to support economic diversification and foster growth in related industries, including fertilizer manufacturing for agriculture.
The plant began operations in November 2025, just two years after construction started in October 2023, and six months ahead of schedule. The New Gas Consortium is operated by Azule Energy with a 37.4% stake, alongside Cabinda Gulf Oil Company (31%), Sonangol E&P (19.8%), TotalEnergies (11.8%), with Angola’s national oil agency ANPG acting as concessionaire.
