Djibouti – General Andrea Taurelli Salimbeni, Chief of Staff of the Italian Carabinieri, visited Djibouti accompanied by Colonel Antonio Dibari, commander of MIADIT Somalia 23, and Colonel Giuseppe Mazzullo, head of the Plans and Military Police and Stability Office. At the Cheik Moussa Training Center, the general met with Colonel Hassan Aden Zakaria, commander of the Djibouti National Gendarmerie, attended the award ceremony for gendarmes recognized for their achievements during training sessions led by the Carabinieri, and participated in the graduation of the “Formed Police Unit” course, which involved 91 officers.
The following morning, General Taurelli Salimbeni, again accompanied by Colonel Dibari, attended the closing ceremony of the “Darwish” course at the Idriss Farah Abaneh Police Academy, attended by the Djiboutian Interior Minister, Said Nouh Hassan, and other civil, military, and police authorities from Djibouti and Somalia. At the event, he awarded the Carabinieri’s “Gold Cross of Merit” to Colonel Abdourah Ali Kahin, Director General of the Djibouti National Police.
During his visit to the BMIS, the general also participated in briefings from Colonel Francesco Sassara, commander of the base, and Colonel Dibari, outlining logistical and operational support provided by Italian forces to military contingents in the Horn of Africa and Red Sea, as well as the extensive training activities carried out for Djibouti and Somali security forces. Ambassador of Italy to Ethiopia, accredited to Djibouti, Sem Fabrizi, was also present. The visit concluded with bilateral meetings between the Carabinieri and the leadership of Djibouti and Somali police forces.
