Cinema: Ficarra and Picone bring their “Andiamo a quel paese” to Canada

June 2 - Salvo and Valentino are two friends who lost their jobs, and thus decide to leave the big city and take refuge in their hometown, where life is cheaper and it’s easier to get by. The impact with the new reality will reveal, however, quite a few surprises. This is Andiamo a quel paese, an Italian film released in theaters in November 2014, directed and performed by Ficarra and Picone, the Sicilian comedy duo composed of Salvatore Ficarra and Valentino Picone. The two are in Montréal for the third edition of the ICFF- the largest Canadian festival entirely dedicated to the best expressions of Italian cinema. On Wednesday, June 17, at 6.30pm, the Italian Cultural Institute of Montreal will host a meeting in Italian, open to the public, with the duo; the public will have the opportunity to ask questions to the two popular comedians. Ficarra and Picone’s day in Montreal will continue at 9pm, at the Cinémathèque Québécoise, with the screening of the film in the presence of the two artists and their producer, Attilio De Race. Salvatore Ficarra and Valentino Picone will also be in Montreal the following day (June 18 at 9pm) when their film will be screened at the Cinéma Guzzo Mega-Plex Lacordaire 16. (red)

THE ICFF

The Italian Cultural Institute of Montreal presents ICFF 2015 for the Province of Quebec. June 11-19, the Cinémathèque Québécoise and the Cinema Guzzo in Montreal, as well as Cinéma Cartier in Quebec City will project a review of contemporary Italian films. The event, which takes place simultaneously in the two provinces of Ontario and Quebec, wants to promote contemporary Italian cinema all over the world, in all its social and cultural significance, through meetings between filmmakers and the public. The festival offers nine days full of events that tackle the issues important to a global audience, exploring past and present Italy, offering a unique opportunity to celebrate the Italian reality in Canada. Each film is preceded by the screening of a short film of Italian production. The program includes a wide spectrum of genres: comedy, political drama, documentaries, short films, and independent films. Directors, actors, writers, academics and other experts will dialogue with the public in open debates that follow the screenings. All movies will be screened in Italian, with subtitles in French and English. The third edition of the ICFF in Quebec was set up born thanks to the collaboration of the Italian Cultural Institute of Montréal with the ICFF in Toronto. This year the screenings will take place at the Cinémathèque Québécoise in Montreal, the Cinéma Guzzo Mega-Plex Lacordaire 16 in Montreal, and the Cinéma Cartier in Quebec City. In the Province of Ontario, the ICFF takes place in Toronto, Vaughan, and Hamilton.
