Milan - Terna is once again confirmed at the top for global sustainability. The company led by Stefano Donnarumma, in fact, has been confirmed for the twelfth consecutive year in the ‘Stoxx Global ESG Leaders’ index, which selects the best companies globally on the basis of the ESG best practices. The ‘Stoxx Global ESG Leaders’ index, created by the company Qontigo, part of the Deutsche Börse group, includes around 400 companies globally, following an overall assessment of more than 1,800 companies around the world. Terna, which manages approximately 75,000 km of high and extra-high-voltage lines across Italy, has received this prestigious international recognition for its excellent performance in all ESG areas analysed. This enabled the company to be confirmed in the three specific indices ‘Stoxx Global Environmental Leaders’, ‘Stoxx Global Social Leaders’ and ‘Stoxx Global ESG Governance Leaders’, and therefore to be included again in the main index, ‘Stoxx Global ESG Leaders’. This international achievement confirms Terna’s role as director and enabler of the energy transition for an increasingly sustainable, secure and resilient grid, and testifies the company’s outstanding performance in Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) areas. Sustainability is a strategic driver and one of the pillars of the Group’s operations: 99% of the approximately € 10 billion of investments planned by Terna in the 2021-2025 “Driving Energy” Industrial Plan are by their nature sustainable, based on the eligibility criterion introduced by the European Taxonomy. On top of this achievement, Terna’s ESG risk rating has recently been updated by Sustainalytics, part of Morningstar, which has assigned the operator of the Italian national electricity grid with the “Negligible Risk” class, the best category, placing the company at the top of the Electric Utilities sector, which includes around 300 companies globally. The update of the rating by Sustainalytics is the latest confirmation of Terna’s leadership in the ESG field, an accolade also recognised by the CDP (formerly the Carbon Disclosure Project) and confirmed by the Group’s presence on leading ESG indices and the most important international rankings, including: Dow Jones Sustainability Index, Bloomberg Gender Equality Index, ECPI, Euronext Vigeo Eiris, FTSE4Good, MIB 40 ESG, GLIO/GRESB ESG Index, MSCI and S&P Global 1200 ESG.
