The Grana Padano Cheese Protection Consortium is set to celebrate a new export record that strengthens the continued growth of the world’s most consumed PDO cheese. In 2024, 2,685,541 forms were exported, accounting for 52% of total production, marking a 9.15% increase compared to the previous year. The surge in exports resulted in an additional 225,161 forms, representing 4.3% of the total production for 2024, further consolidating the presence of Grana Padano in international markets.
On the export podium, Germany remains the leading market, with 634,000 forms, which represents 23.6% of total exports. France follows with 319,000 forms, and the United States with 215,000 forms. Completing the top ten export destinations are Spain (163,000 forms), the United Kingdom (149,000 forms), Switzerland (146,000 forms), Belgium (107,000 forms), Netherlands (98,000 forms), Austria (91,000 forms), and Canada (77,000 forms). Outside the top ten, Sweden ranks 11th with 70,000 forms, followed by Poland with 64,000 forms, Greece with 53,000 forms, Denmark with 48,000 forms, and Romania with 43,000 forms.
Stefano Berni, the Director General of the Consortium, comments with satisfaction: “Grana Padano continues to confirm its global leadership, with growth that shows no signs of slowing down, even in the most mature international markets.” On tariffs, he adds: “A disaster and an incomprehensible act that would primarily harm American consumers, who elected Trump as President of the United States.”
