Monaco – At the 2025 Monaco Energy Boat Challenge, held July 1–6 at the Yacht Club de Monaco, the Elettra team from the University of Genoa achieved outstanding results: a second-place finish in the “Energy” category, a new speed record, and the prestigious Eco-conception Award.
Piloted by naval engineering student Camilla Margherita Poggi, the Elettra vessel reached a record-breaking speed of 28 knots, the fastest in its category. The team was also recognized for its outstanding environmental performance, winning the Eco-conception prize for the project with the lowest overall environmental impact across its full life cycle—from design to disposal.
The Monaco Energy Boat Challenge is more than just a race; it is the premier international showcase for the future of sustainable yachting. The event brings together universities, companies, and startups from around the world to compete and collaborate in the development of alternative-energy-powered vessels.
UniGe Elettra’s entry once again demonstrated innovation and engineering excellence. Designed and built entirely in-house, their electric boat emphasized energy efficiency, cutting-edge technology, and sustainable design. The multidisciplinary team includes students and researchers from fields as diverse as naval, electric, and electronic engineering, architecture, communication, management, and even medicine—reflecting a holistic approach to innovation.
