From Monday to Friday, BigItalyFocus provides an information overview, ranged from development aid to made in Italy
Beirut – Opened on June 24, the exhibition Electric Whispers will run through August 15 at the Beirut Art Center. This solo show by Italian visual artist Rä di Martino is organized by the Italian Cultural Institute of Beirut, in collaboration with the center, and highlights the artist’s most recent works created during her residency in Beirut, alongside a curated selection of earlier pieces.
The exhibition reflects di Martino’s interdisciplinary approach, which moves fluidly between video, photography, cinema, and 3D animation. At its heart is The Focus of Attention (Up!) (2025), a newly conceived installation unveiled for the first time in Beirut. The piece features two projected slides, drawn from the artist’s archival research.
The first slide—a black-and-white reinterpretation of a theater stage photograph—depicts a group of people gazing upward, caught in a moment suspended between awe and anticipation. The second shows a page from a 1950s science fiction novel, dominated by a large UFO. Together, these images create a visual narrative of suspended hope and mental projection, evoking the uncertain yet imaginative landscapes of speculative futures.
