Helsinki – The Italian Cultural Institute in Helsinki is currently hosting the exhibition The Long History of Lace: From Its Origins to the Catwalk, presented in collaboration with the Riihimäki Art Museum and the Riihimäki City Museum. The show traces the evolution of European lace from the 16th century to the present day, revealing how this delicate craft has never gone out of style and continues to inspire designers worldwide.
On display until September 14, the exhibition features a wide array of lace pieces applied to functional fabrics, accessories, and jewelry. Alongside works from curator Marjatta Hietaniemi’s own collection, visitors can admire lace from other private collections, including that of Italian collector Luciana Molinis from Udine. The exhibition also showcases items from the Riihimäki City Museum and the Riihimäki Art Museum, as well as jewelry created by various artists, among them Italians Maria Bissacco from Trieste and Anna Angioni from Sardinia.
