Theatre workshop in Cologne explores Italian migration history

Cologne – To mark the 70th anniversary of the Italo–German agreement on the recruitment of Italian workers in the Federal Republic of Germany (Das Anwerbeabkommen), the Italian Cultural Institute of Cologne is presenting Azione Gastarbeiter, a theatre workshop and performance in collaboration with Teatro Due Mondi. The event will take place on Friday 19 and Saturday 20 September at the Institute’s premises.
The initiative aims to foster reflection on the relationship between Germans and Italians, and on how this connection has enriched both countries and their people—an exchange that, at its outset, was intended solely for economic and labour purposes. Using the “participatory theatre” method that Teatro Due Mondi has been developing for 14 years through its permanent intercultural workshop Senza Confini, participants will create a short theatrical action to be performed publicly at the Institute at the end of the second day.
