Mar. 20 - The Italian photographer Martina Biccheri won the Open category Architecture of the Sony World Photography Awards 2013. Her photo was selected among more than submitted 54,000 works and it will be exhibited at the Sony World Photography Awards Exhibition 2013, held at Somerset House in London from 26 April to 12 May, and published in the 2013 volume dedicated to the Sony World Photography Awards. Martina Biccheri and the other nine winners are competing against each other for the title of "Open Photographer of the Year" that will be revealed on April 25 in London, during the gala ceremony.
The winner will receive $5,000. Biccheri’s photograph was taken in her home town, Rome, in the spring of 2012 with an optical bench camera (5x6 sheet). It took Biccheri several attempts to get the shadows and perfect exposure: she had to return to the scene of the shooting several times, always hoping that the weather was nice enough, and once she even spent the whole day in front of the wall, just to see what time of day the shadow was more geometric.
