Erika Rombaldoni brings Joséphine Baker to life in Monte Carlo

Monte Carlo - Following her work as choreographer for Cesare Cremonini’s recent stadium tour and her contributions to five performances of The Name of the Rose at Milan’s Teatro alla Scala, internationally acclaimed Italian artist Erika Rombaldoni has created the choreography for Bonsoir Monte-Carlo – A Tribute to Joséphine Baker. The show is scheduled for November 19 and 21 at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco, as part of the Principality’s National Day celebrations.
Rombaldoni brings to the stage her unique physical and theatrical language, blending dance, stage gestures, and visual imagination. Under her guidance, the dancers’ bodies will narrate the extraordinary life of Joséphine Baker: jazz diva, symbol of freedom and courage, Resistance fighter, and icon of emancipation and universal brotherhood.
Commissioned by the Opéra de Monte-Carlo, the performance commemorates the 50th anniversary of Baker’s passing, tracing her life through music, song, and imagery—from her Parisian debut a century ago at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, which made her an international icon, to her death in 1975 beside her lifelong friend, Princess Grace of Monaco.
