OECD peer review: Italy’s development cooperation under the spotlight

Rome – Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Edmondo Cirielli met today, October 13, at the Farnesina with a delegation from the OECD conducting a peer review of Italy’s development cooperation system, a process that will continue into next year.
The delegation includes representatives from Germany, Iceland, and the OECD Development Assistance Committee (DAC) Secretariat.
“The Italian government has placed development cooperation at the heart of its foreign policy, particularly in Africa through the Mattei Plan,” said Cirielli. “The growth and stability of our partner countries are essential to our own.”
This review — the first since 2019 and nearly ten years after the implementation of Law 125/2014 — is seen as a key opportunity to assess Italy’s innovative approach, outlined in the 2024–2026 Triennial Programming and Policy Document.
During their visit, the evaluators will meet with the Foreign Affairs Committees of both chambers of Parliament, as well as representatives of civil society, academia, local authorities, and the private sector, to gain a full picture of Italy’s evolving development cooperation landscape.
