Lisbon hosts presentation of De Paolis’ book on nazi war crimes in Italy

Lisbon – On Monday, January 19, at 6:30 p.m., the Italian Cultural Institute in Lisbon will host Marco De Paolis, Military Prosecutor General at the Court of Appeal of Rome, for a presentation of his book Hunting Nazis: Marzabotto, Sant’Anna, and the Nazi Massacres in Italy. The Story of the Prosecutor Who Brought the Perpetrators to Justice, published by Rizzoli and prefaced by Senator Liliana Segre. The event is organized in collaboration with the Italian bookstore Piena – Libri Persone Visioni.
The presentation is part of a larger conference. De Paolis, one of Italy’s leading experts on Nazi-fascist war crimes, recounts fifteen years of investigations from 2002 to 2018 into crimes committed in Italy after September 8, 1943. His work led to over 500 judicial proceedings, 17 trials, and 57 life sentences for those responsible for massacres of civilians and soldiers.
Notable sites include Marzabotto, Sant’Anna di Stazzema, Civitella in Val di Chiana, Monchio, as well as Kos, Leros, and Cephalonia. Many of these cases had long been buried in the infamous “Cabinet of Shame” files.
