Generis: new issue on class relations to be released in 2027. Workshops open to all

Lyon – Class relations will be the focus of the next issue of Generis, the collaborative, multilingual journal of anonymous correspondence on social issues, scheduled for release in early 2027 with presentations in Paris, Palermo and Leipzig. The first issue, published in 2025, explored the role that gender identity plays in our lives. The second will turn to class relations through lived experience: social class, inheritance, life paths, friendships, dreams, and the ways in which all of this shapes our place in the world, our choices and our horizons. Anyone can contribute to the project, and texts will be published in the original language in which they are written (French, Italian or German). For the occasion, writing workshops will be organised in French, Italian and German, to be held in Leipzig and Lyon, in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute of Lyon, the Goethe-Institut Lyon and the Institut français of Leipzig. From 3 to 6 July, the first workshop will take place at the Institut français in Leipzig, in collaboration with authors Sonali Beher and Gauz, alongside a translation workshop led by Inka Rommel, Giulia Abbadessa and Marta Cassina. The texts produced in Leipzig will initiate an epistolary exchange that will continue in Lyon. On 13 November, an opening event will launch the second series of workshops at the Goethe-Institut in Lyon, where writers, translators and the public will engage in discussion. On 14 November, authors Cristina Ubah Ali Farah and Sonali Beher will lead writing workshops at ENS Lyon. Translation workshops will take place on 15 November, coordinated by Florence Courriol and Sven Keromnes at the MJC Laënnec Mermoz. This series of workshops will open a space for reflection around a number of questions: what does the notion of social class tell us about the society we live in? What is my family and social heritage? Do I mix with people from social classes different from my own? How does my social background influence my career choices, friendships, lifestyles or aspirations? Have these dynamics changed over time? How do class relations intersect with other forms of inequality? To participate, write to: 1234generis@proton.me. (9colonne)
