Palermo’s 28-Century heritage: Italian Cultural Institute of Sydney hosts virtual Tour

Sydney – Tomorrow features the third installment of the Free Virtual Guided Tours, organized by the Italian Cultural Institute of Sydney in collaboration with The Grand Tour Europe. The Zoom webinar will take place on July 8 at 6:00 PM (local time). Virtual guide Mario Bernardi will take attendees on a journey through Palermo—a city shaped over 28 centuries by Phoenicians, Greeks, Romans, Arabs, and Normans, serving as an extraordinary testament to the convergence of Mediterranean cultures. This unique cultural fusion gave birth to architectural masterpieces built to withstand the centuries. Among them is the Palazzo dei Normanni (Norman Palace), home to Europe’s oldest active parliament, which houses the breathtaking Palatine Chapel: a Christian chapel embellished with Islamic and Byzantine influences, representing a true artistic and spiritual jewel. Palermo’s churches, palaces, music, and gastronomy all tell the story of the great Normans, who masterfully governed diverse cultures as a single people.
