Bethlehem – The Academic Senate of Sapienza University of Rome has approved an Academic Framework Agreement with Bethlehem University, Al-Quds University and Khair Inc., the foundation supporting the initiative as its funding partner. The agreement aims to develop advanced academic programs in Palestine, strengthen higher education infrastructure to international standards, and establish dual-degree programs designed to expand educational opportunities for Palestinian students. The initiative is the result of months of dialogue and marks another step in Sapienza's commitment to international academic cooperation and scientific diplomacy as a tool for dialogue, education and sustainable development. At its core is the goal of widening access to higher education in a region facing profound challenges by building stronger academic ties between Italy and Palestine, and between Europe and the Middle East. The agreement provides for dual-degree programs enabling students to earn qualifications jointly awarded by the partner universities, in accordance with national regulations and each institution's internal approval procedures. Particular emphasis will be placed on applied sciences, technology and engineering, with curricula required to meet Sapienza's academic quality standards and curriculum-mapping procedures. "With this agreement, Sapienza reaffirms its commitment to academic cooperation that creates tangible opportunities, especially in contexts where access to higher education is essential to building a future," said Rector Antonella Polimeni. "Scientific diplomacy is not an abstract concept. It means putting knowledge, education and the responsibility of universities at the service of dialogue, growth and human dignity. Working with Bethlehem University and Al-Quds University allows us to help create international educational pathways for the new generations of Palestinian students, grounded in academic excellence, cooperation and peace. "Sapienza will continue to stand alongside those in the Middle East, in Gaza, in Palestine and in every conflict-affected region where opportunities for education, freedom and the future are being diminished or denied. As a public university, we believe it is our duty to stand with civilians, students, young people and everyone for whom knowledge can offer a genuine path toward reconstruction, dignity and hope."
