Fourth virtual guided tour explores the Palatine Hill

Sydney – The Italian Cultural Institute in Sydney, in collaboration with The Grand Tour Europe, will host the fourth event in its second series of free virtual guided tours on 22 July at 6 p.m. Led by Mario Bernardi, this latest tour will take participants on a journey through the legendary Palatine Hill, the sacred heart of ancient Rome and one of the city's most important archaeological sites. According to Roman mythology, this is where Romulus founded the city after the famous tale of Romulus and Remus and the she-wolf of the Lupercal Cave, giving rise to the legendary origins of Rome. From its earliest settlements and places of worship, the Palatine gradually evolved into the prestigious residential quarter of the Roman emperors. Over the centuries, the hill witnessed Rome's birth, imperial splendour and eventual decline following the barbarian invasions. Rediscovered during the Renaissance and transformed into elegant gardens, the Palatine continues to tell a story spanning centuries of history, mythology and artistic heritage. (9colonne)
