“(Un)masked” exhibition to close in Shanghai with catalogue launch and panel discussion

Shanghai – The exhibition “(Un)masked. Sino-Italian Contemporary Photography Exhibition” will conclude on 1 August with a special event exploring its central themes and unveiling the exhibition catalogue. Organised by the Shanghai Duolun Museum of Modern Art and the Italian Cultural Institute in Shanghai, the event, titled Identity, Theatre and Reality in Contemporary Moving Images, will begin at 2 p.m. The discussion will feature the exhibition's curators, Zeng Yulan, Director of the Shanghai Duolun Museum of Modern Art, and Francesco D’Arelli, Director of the Italian Cultural Institute in Shanghai, alongside several participating artists. Chinese photographer Maleonn will join remotely, while Guido Harari and Giovanni Capriotti will contribute via recorded video messages. Bringing together more than 100 works by ten artists—five Italian and five Chinese—the exhibition examines the concept of identity through the symbolic motif of the mask. Visitors are invited to reflect on the relationship between appearance and reality through a wide range of artistic media, including photography, video installations and AI-generated imagery.
