Berlin – It was a record-breaking night that will go down in European music history for Gianna Nannini. The iconic Waldbühne rock arena in Berlin was completely sold out on Saturday, September 19, with 20,000 people turning out to welcome Nannini back 38 years after her landmark 1988 concert at the same venue. The stage has hosted some of the world’s biggest rock acts, including the Rolling Stones, Rammstein and Depeche Mode. “Berlin is my adopted city,” Gianna Nannini said after the show. “I feel at home here. I have a suitcase that I left here… just like Marlene Dietrich! Last night I came back and gave myself a dream to celebrate a string of successes.” The more than two-hour concert featured many of the best-known songs from her 50-year career. Nannini was joined by the renowned Prague Bohemian Symphony Orchestra, with its 70 musicians conducted by Martin Šanda. She was also backed by her band, featuring Davide Tagliapietra on musical direction and guitar, Milton McDonald on guitar, Christian Rigano on keyboards, Francis Hylton on bass, Moritz Muller on drums, and Bettah Ferrari, Alice Tombola and Laura Barbieri on backing vocals, directed by Moris Pradella. Together with the musicians and orchestra, Nannini delivered an electrifying symphonic rock show celebrating a career packed with major hits and marking the beginning of her collaboration with Vivo Concerti. The setlist included America, I maschi, Fenomenale and Fotoromanza, as well as an acoustic section featuring, among other songs, Notti senza cuore, Ragazzo dell’Europa and Profumo. Other highlights included Un giorno disumano, Bello e impossibile, Meravigliosa creatura, Latin lover and Sei nell’anima, while the final encore brought the crowd to its feet with Un’estate italiana. The concert also featured more recent material, including Silenzio, Filo spinato, Lento lontano and her latest single, Meraviglioso errore, written by Nannini together with Brunori Sas and Dimartino.
