Seoul – The 2026 Jirisan International Environmental Biennale opens on October 1st, featuring the Italian Pavilion, an independent showcase dedicated to Italian art. Marking the first time a South Korean private biennale hosts an official national pavilion, the project aims to offer fresh perspectives on the role of art in the era of the climate crisis.
Officially supported by the Magma Cultural Association under the patronage of the Italian Cultural Institute in Seoul, the Italian Pavilion spans approximately 330 square meters, making it the largest national pavilion ever realized within a private biennale in South Korea. Titled “Italian Diary: Revelations and Shadows” (Diario Italiano. Rivelazioni e Ombre), the exhibition is curated by Professor Maria Mancini, lecturer at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan and director of MXM Arte. The showcase features 45 works by 22 Italian artists, including Massimo Pellegrinetti, Raquel Aversano, Lea Contestabile, Daniele Salvalai, and many others.
