Helsinki – On November 5 at 5:00 PM in Helsinki, at the Sibelius Academy of the University of the Arts Helsinki, pianist, mathematician, and music/culture communicator Ingrid Carbone will headline the recital "The Conversation-Concert: a Transformative Space for Performer and Listener." The event is part of the SibA Research Days 2026 – Change and the Arts, an initiative dedicated to the relationship between artistic research, musical practice, and society, with a particular focus on the arts' role in cultural and social change processes. During the recital, Carbone will present her signature "conversation-concert" format - created in 2019 - to an international audience, exploring the potential of musical experience to foster knowledge and transformation for both listeners and performers.
The primary goal of the recital is to demonstrate how this original format breaks down the "fourth wall," the invisible barrier often created between artist and audience, fostering a dialogue between artistic execution, interpretive awareness, and attentive listening. In presenting her selected case-study pieces, Ingrid Carbone will highlight the role of rigorous mathematical thinking in understanding musical structures and developing deeper interpretive awareness, ultimately expanding the artist's expressive range and enriching the audience's listening experience. Her approach stems from an evolving journey in Artistic Research that integrates scientific inquiry, musical practice, and innovative communication formats, which have already been successfully presented across Europe, China, the Middle East, and Latin America.
