Dublin – The theatre production Aliens, written and performed by Alessandra Celesia and Marta McIlduff and directed by Emily Mytton, will be staged at Dublin’s Project Arts Centre on 4 and 5 November at 7.30 pm. During a road trip from Donegal to southern Italy, via Calais, a mother and daughter – both on stage and in real life – weave their personal stories together with historical events and the voices of migrants from the past, contemporary activists and strangers they meet along the way. Blending theatre, video and electronic music, the production explores what it means to cross a border – between countries, cultures and generations – and who gets to draw the lines separating “us” from “them”. Performed in English, Italian and French with surtitles, Aliens is a co-production by Curious Industries and Dumbworld. It was created with funding from the Autonomous Region of Aosta Valley, supported by the National Lottery through the Arts Council of Northern Ireland, and presented under the patronage of the Italian Cultural Institute in Dublin. The Irish Times described it as “an ambitious and memorable work that tackles familiar themes in unexpected, almost alien ways”. (9colonne)
