(Sept. 29) The commitment of the Cesvi in South Sudan continues to promote access to safe drinking water and food security in the North Bar el Ghazal. One of the activities currently underway is in support of local fishermen. In recent days, the NGO organized in the villages of North Malual the distribution of fishing kits in Gok Machar, the main town in the Aweil North County, reaching a total of seven villages: Adhal, Pethyiik, Roaldit, Adhiotich, Mayom AMOM, Adhot lual Kiir Chol and Malek. Cesvi staff distributed kits to 200 fishermen with the aim of improving their living conditions. Each kit contains a fishing net, fishing hooks of various sizes, rope nets and floats. In addition to this project, the Cesvi operates in Juba, capital of South Sudan, to strengthen the capacity of local authorities, communities and local organizations in the management and disposal of municipal waste. As part of the protection, the organization is committed to the safeguard of children in the transit camps for displaced persons from Renk, in Sudan. (red)
ABOUT CESVI
Cesvi, established in 1985, is a secular, independent association, working for global solidarity. In the values guiding Cesvi, the moral principle of human solidarity and the ideal of social justice are transformed into humanitarian aid and development, reinforcing an affirmation of universal human rights. In the acronym Cesvi, the words cooperazione e sviluppo (Cooperation and Development) underline the fact that Cesvi bases its philosophy on the idea of giving the recipients of aid a leading role, working together for their own natural benefit. It is for this reason that Cesvi is strongly committed to making sure that international aid does not become mere charity, and nor is it influenced by the donors’ self-interest.
