(14 May 2018) The exhibition "Bernini and the Roman Baroque: The language of modernity. Works from Palazzo Chigi in Ariccia" will be inaugurated tomorrow at the National Gallery of Sofia. It represents a unique opportunity for Bulgaria to admire the masterpieces of the greatest artists of the seventeenth century, from Bernini to Baciccio, from Borgognone to Mola, and to reflect on the significance of the Baroque period today, in a world in constant change. The exhibition, open to the public until July 15th, was organised by the Italian Institute of Culture of Sofia in collaboration with the National Gallery of Sofia which will host 58 works of art related to prominent figures of the Roman Baroque. "The exhibition takes us on a journey into the figurative imaginary of the Italian seventeenth century, to discover its intense and overwhelming language" according to the IIC website. Tomorrow at 18:00, the exhibition will be inaugurated by the Italian Ambassador in Bulgaria Stefano Baldi; the director of the Italian Institute of Culture in Sofia, Dr. Luigina Peddi; the director of the National Gallery, Slava Ivanova; and curator Prof. Francesco Petrucci.
