Today until January 27th there will be a new production of "Don Giovanni" by WA Mozart at the Brooklyn Theatre in Pretoria. The work, set up by Salon Music, sees the participation of both South African artists (Deirdré van Schalkwyk plays Donna Anna and Linelle Wimbles Donna Elvira) and international artists (the Spanish tenor based in Florence Antonio Garés in the role of Don Ottavio and the Viennese baritone Lukas Johan will be Don Giovanni). The Italian Cultural Institute of Pretoria coordinated the publication of the libretto by Lorenzo da Ponte which premiered in 1787 in Prague. The libretto, in addition to the bilingual Italian-English text and information on the production, contains information on the history of the great Italian librettist.
